US Military Housing Area that was previously a German Military installation. During the period following World War II a Displaced Persons (DP) Camp was located here. Following the closure of the DP Camp the US Army constructed a large housing complex here which remains to this day. The studios of AFN Stuttgart- the English language radio station for the US Military in Stuttgart- is located here. There is also an Elementary School located here for dependent children of US personnel.
A portion of the original site was returned to the German government and has been redeveloped into housing. The land returned has hosted what was then the largest PX and Commissary operated by the US in Europe and was configured like a shopping mall. That complex was torn down after the property was returned to the German government.

The information above is outdated. EUCOM is no longer responsible for Africa. That responsibility was transferred to AFRICOM- a new unified command started at Patch and then transferred to nearby Kelley Barracks.
US European Command transferred here from Paris in the 1960s when France asked the US to remove all it's bases from the country. The previous tenant was the European HQ of the US Army, the predecessor of today's US Army Europe, now located at Lucius D. Clay Kaserne near Wiesbaden, Germany.
During the occupation period following World War II the US Constabulary- an US Army force that performed civil policing and border control duties in the American Zone of occupied Germany- operated from Patch Barracks.

Original German name Hellenen Kaserne, named Kelley Barracks after the US installed the Headquarters of VII Corps of the US Army there in the early 1950's. VII Corps HQ remained at Kelley until the unit was deployed to the Persian Gulf for Desert Storm. Following Desert Storm, VII Corps was redeployed to the US and deactivated at Ft Stewart, Georgia. From that time until the arrival of AFRICOM, the 6th ASG was the primary resident activity.
Once primarily a US Army installation, the post is now "purple" as in multi -service as it hosts a Department of Defense Unified Command. Members of all branches of the US Armed forces serve here.

The Hospital in question was a United States Army Hospital- 5th General Hospital- that operated until the withdrawal of VII Corps from Germany following the 1st Gulf War. During the Cold War the US Army stationed about 45,000 people in and around Stuttgart to include Ludwigsburg, most assigned to units under the command of VII Corps headquartered at Kelley Barracks in Stuttgart-Mohringen.
Following the fall of the Berlin Wall the US decided to withdraw one of the 2 Corps sized units in the then West Germany. VII Corps and it's component units were deployed from Germany to Saudi Arabia and the bulk of the troops never returned with most units redeploying to the US. VII Corps HQ returned to Kelley Barracks to close up shop and stayed until 1992.
With the withdrawal of most units in the greater Stuttgart area, 5th General Hospital was closed and the property returned to the German government.

mnogotochie, it seems, you are misunderstanding this rule. If there is no military base now it not means there is nothing or space picture lies? So it's need to correct title not delete.
